[57]                                       ABSTRACT

The present invention has two basic aspects: (a) a me-
chanical method for controlling the macrofouling of
zebra mussels; and (b) a mechanical apparatus for reduc-
ing the dissolved oxygen of natural source water, such
as for industrial or municipal use, to a level below that
sufficient to support the survival respiration of zebra
mussels.
