Characteristics Of Streamflow Drought

Tiao J. Chang1

Abstract:

Assuming the nonhomogeneous Poissonian behavior of droughts, the intensity function was developed to investigate the characteristics of drought occurrences that can be used for the purpose of simulation. Based on the daily streamflows from the Ohio River Basin in the United States, it was found that drought intensities were varied depending highly on time and truncation level. The correlation coefficients between drought durations and their corresponding deficits were significantly large for all the streamflow stations studied in the basin.
